The Child and Youth Worker (CYW) aims to improve the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development of the children and youth who come into shelter through direct and ongoing care and therapeutic play. The CYW works alongside the caregiver to provide support and resources to families who are shifting through hardship to help maintain some stability and guidance.
The Child and Youth Worker Provides:
- Respite care for programing, appointments, etc.
- Maintains a safe environment and builds safe relationships
- Practices age appropriate safety plans
- Plans programs, educational activities and outings in the community
- Supports the needs of the children/youth
- Empowers the caregivers by providing appropriate resources and supports
- Neutral and positive person for the youth to confide in
