Safety comes first, you know what is best for you and your children, every safety plan is different for each individual. If you would like to create a safety plan with staff please call us at 807-229-2222 and we can assist you on a plan that is geared towards your needs.
Some things to consider if you are planning on leaving your abuser:
- Keeping a “to go” bag pack with all of your essentials, hidden with easy access for you to retrieve if needed
- Clothes
- Photo copies of IDs, prescriptions, legal papers, Tax papers
- Money
- Phone chargers and other import electronics
- Clothes
- Keeping your phone charged close by your bedside
- Having your car keys/ house key accessible to you if possible
- Knowing where all the windows and door are in your home
- Confiding in a family, friend or neighbour for support
- Having a place that you can go to immediately
- Turning off your location on your phone/ apps to ensure safety
- Creating a safety plan with you children
If you are planning on coming into Shelter try to bring:
- Keys
- Money
- Photo ID cards (health cards, drivers licence, status cards, birth certificate)
- Banking info/ cards
- Prescription medications (if you have any)/ vaccination records
- Clothes
- Phone
- Current income tax or tax slips
- Legal papers
- Custody/ decision makers papers
- Peace bonds
- Restraining orders
- Lease/ rental agreements or mortgage documents
- Custody/ decision makers papers
- Documentation that shows proof of cohabitation (lease/bills with both parties names on it)
Things to consider bringing for your children:
- Comfort items
- Favourite blanket / toy
